14.10.2012 Packers vs. Texans Sunday Night Football Early NFL Picks

By:

The undefeated Houston Texans get their toughest test yet this weekend when they host the Green Bay Packers. Will Aaron Rodgers lead Green Bay to a win? Or will we see the Texans emerge out of the game with a 6-0 record?

Opening Odds
Sunday night's game is a beautiful one, with two great football teams set to put on a show for fans on national television.
As of now, the Texans are favored by five points on the NFL odds board, though the offerings are mixed depending on where you're looking. Four-and-a-half and five-and-a-half can also be found.
Feeling good about a total play for this one? The O/U is at 47, one of the higher numbers we see in the Week 6 slate.
Green Bay Packers
Aaron RodgersNot very often do you see the Packers as that big of underdogs, but the line is completely fair.
Green Bay hasn't lived up the billing whatsoever just yet. They've alternated wins and losses through their first five games of the season, with the three defeats coming at home to San Francisco and on the road to Seattle and Indianapolis.
That loss to the Colts will sting for a while considering the Packers held a 21-3 lead at halftime and looked destined to cruise to the win.
Andrew Luck and company had other ideas though, scoring 20 straight points at one point, and scoring the winning touchdown with 35 seconds left to give Indianapolis the 30-27 win and send Green Bay to 2-3 on the season.
Few would have expected to see the Packers with a losing recordat this juncture, but they've brought this upon themselves. Ranked number 21 in total offense, things just aren't clicking like they were last season.
Add on Cedric Benson's injury that will see him miss at least eight weeks of action, plus the simple fact that the NFC North is ultra-competitive right now, and there's real reason for Green Bay fans.
Houston Texans
It wasn't as easy as many thought, but the Texans still got the job done against the New York Jets on MNF to push their record to 5-0.
Arian Foster ran all over the Jets, racking up 152 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. That more than made up for a shaky performance from Matt Schaub, who had trouble picking apart the New York secondary throughout.
Regardless, it's impressive to be undefeated no matter what through five weeks of the season and now the Texans will be at home for three straight games.
It's all going to be about defense for Houston against Green Bay here in Week 6.
The Texans, ranked third in the league in total defense, will have to do without Brian Cushing, who suffered a serious knee injury on Monday night. That is a massive loss as Cushing leads the team with 29 total tackles.
J.J. Watt will have to be an even bigger force of nature in pressuring Rodgers, not that should be a problem for the second-year pro who already had 8.5 sacks in five games. Deeper back, the Texans secondary (189.6 YPG allowed thus far) has to be at their very best.
We will be revisiting this game all week long, sharing our NFL picks on both the total and the spread. For now, however, we will just give you an early lean until the lines settle down.
Early Lean: Green Bay Packers +5.5 +++
