14.10.2012 NFL Picks: Bengals vs. Browns

By:

Another battle of Ohio takes place this Sunday, with the Browns and Bengals set to duel it out in Cleveland. The Browns, still yet to win a game this season, are the underdogs at home. So how should we play?

Bengals vs. Browns NFL Pick
Odds Rundown
Both Cleveland and Cincinnati are 2-2-1 ATS on the season.
NFL+PICKS+BETTING+ODDSThe NFL odds have been released for the Week 6 slate and the Browns are getting one point at home, though some outlets have them getting two or even three.
A total of 44 has been installed at most sportsbooks. The OVER is 3-2 in Cincinnati's five games so far and 2-3 for Cleveland.
Cincinnati Bengals
All was right in Cincinnati, as the Bengals were 3-1 heading into a seemingly very winnable game at home versus the Miami Dolphins.
It was a day to forget though for Marvin Lewis' team.
The Bengals lost 17-13, with Miami doing an excellent job of keeping Andy Dalton, AJ Green and the Cincinnati offense in check. Dalton had 234 passing yards and had more interceptions (two) than touchdowns (one).
With the loss, the Bengals fell to 3-2 on the season and are now one game back of the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North.
As such, a win over Cleveland is crucial this weekend, especially since Cincinnati will be hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7 before their BYE. The schedule gets pretty darn difficult after the week off, with the Broncos, Giants, Chargers, Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers and Ravens all in their way.
Stats-wise, the Bengals are middle-of-the-road in both offense and defense. They're #15 in total offense and #17 in total offense heading into Sunday's battle.

Cleveland Browns
Dating back to last season, the Browns have lost seven in a row and have gone 2-4-1 ATS in those games.
Last weekend Cleveland lost 41-27 to the New York Giants. The Browns may have been able to get things going offensively, but they allowed the Giants to notch over 500 yards of total offense.
As is normally the case with winless teams, Cleveland isn't doing too much right. They're #24 in total offense and #24 in total defense. However, there are some encouraging signs that the Browns offense is on the right track.
Who knows if Brandon Weeden is really the answer at quarterback, but Cleveland seems to have been right on the money when they selected Trent Richardson with the third overall pick in the draft. Richardson already has 472 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns in five games.
Cleveland is definitely catching their cross-state rivals at the right time, with Cincinnati sure to feel a little uneasy about where they stand after losing to the Dolphins at home.
Does that mean this is the week the Browns finally get in the winning column?
My NFL Pick
Believe it or not, I do think this is it for Cleveland.
Joe Haden is back and it couldn't have come at a better time for a Browns secondary that's surrendering 280.6 yards per game. Haden will be covering Green and that's going to be a non-stop fight this weekend.
Not only that, but I look for a big game out of Richardson. The Bengals are #19 in run defense so far this season and the rookie is only getting tougher to bring down as the season progresses.
Cincinnati is getting great play (in general) out of the combo of Dalton and Green, but the running game hasn't been doing so hot. BenJarvus Green-Ellis was brought in to offset the departure of Cedric Benson, but it just hasn't worked so far.
I expect this one to come down to the wire and so I'll take the points and put the home team on my football picks ticket.
Free Pick: Cleveland Browns +3  +++
