10.12.2012 NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors -4 over Bobcats on road

The Warriors have begun an Eastern road trip 3-0 and they are 10-3 in their last 13 contests. They should keep on rolling over a Bobcats team that has lost seven straight games Monday.
One of the most improved teams in the NBA hits the road again on Monday night when those Golden State Warriors (13-7, 7-4 away) pay a visit to the struggling Charlotte Bobcats (7-12, 5-7 home) at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC at 7:05 ET.

The point spread at Pinnacle Sports has Golden State as a moderate road favorite for this contest at a current line of -4 at odds of -108.

Harrison BarnesDo not look now but the Warriors have pulled to within one game of the Los Angeles Clippers while in second place in the Pacific Division and Golden State owns the fifth best record in the Western Conference, thanks to going 10-3 since a 3-4 start to the season.

The Warriors have also been very popular at the betting windows going 12-7-1 ATS, and they are doing it all with new center Andrew Bogut having appeared in just four games and probably out until after the start of the new year. Rookie Festus Ezeli out of Vanderbilt has been starting in Bogut’s stead, and while the youngster does not score much, he is a good rebounder and plays very good defense, averaging exactly 1.0 block per game while appearing in all 20 games.

That is really all that Golden State is asking Ezeli to do with their exciting backcourt of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson along with a walking double-double up front in David Lee carrying the scoring load, with rookie Harrison Barnes from North Carolina also making contributions. The end result has been a 3-0 start to this Eastern road trip.

Granted, two of those three wins came vs. losing teams in the Detroit Pistons and the Washington Wizards, but the most impressive win on the trip came vs. the Brooklyn Nets 109-102 on Friday.

Curry, who went to high school here in the Charlotte area and went to college at nearby Davidson, has always been a natural shooting guard but he is growing into the point guard role nicely, as he is averaging nearly nine assists in is last six games with four double-doubles in that period, and he has done that while still scoring at least 20 points in seven straight games.

Thompson is averaging 18.5 points from the two-guard spot while Lee is averaging a monstrous 18.5 points and 11.2 rebounds and adding in 3.5 assists for good measure from the power forward spot.

As for the Bobcats, the good news is that their seven wins this year already matches the entire win total of the historically bad 7-59 team of last season. The bad news is that they were 7-5 at one point and have lost seven games in a row since then. The latest Charlotte defeat was a 132-102 thrashing at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs here at home on Saturday.

The Cats allowed a whopping 19 three-point field goals vs. the Spurs and they are allowing 110.0 points per game during the seven-game losing streak. They now rank 28th in the NBA in points against at 103.4 points per game while also ranking 21st in field goal percentage against and 23rd in three-point defense.

Thus the last thing Charlotte wants to see right now is a hot young confident team in Golden State that is averaging 104.7 points on 46.7 percent shooting during its road trip so far including a very nice 41.5 percent from beyond the three-point arc, so look for the Warriors to remain en fuego with a safe win in North Carolina on Monday.
