NFL Week 12 Broncos vs. Chiefs

Winners of five straight, the Denver Broncos are the hottest team in the NFL right now. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs are losers of seven straight and are the coldest team in the league. We preview this AFC West matchup before making our NFL picks.

The Broncos are favored by 10.5 points on the road according to NFL odds makers, which is astounding when you consider just how valuable home-field advantage at Arrowhead Stadium used to be. They’ll win, but can they cover that number?
The Broncos can win because…
Champ BaileyThe Chiefs are absolutely pathetic right now. Kansas City might as well employ the option or the wildcat every down because the forward pass is a foreign concept to them. They average 198 passing yards per game, but that average has dipped to just 165 over the last three games. They can’t score points right now and that’s a big problem.
For Kansas City, going three-and-out might even be a positive the way they’re playing these days. They cough up the ball non-stop and give away points like it’s Halloween candy.
Last week, they played at home and only scored six against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Broncos are a far superior team and should shred them to bits.
Denver is playing really well these days and has emerged as one of the best, most balanced teams in the AFC. They’ve scored at least 30 points in every contest during their five-game winning streak; Kansas City has scored a total of 32 in the last three games combined.
Playing at home isn’t even a benefit for the Chiefs anymore as fans show up to games with paper bags. They’ve turned on the team, cheering injuries to the quarterbacks and booing the team at every turn. As long as the Broncos aren’t half asleep, they’ll easily win and cover.
The Chiefs can win because…
The Broncos won’t really care about this game.
Denver is coming off an all-important win over the San Diego Chargers, which essentially put the division race to rest. The Broncos now hold a three-game lead over the Chargers along with a tiebreaker, so they’ve essentially already won the AFC West. If there ever was a time for them to take their foot off the gas, it would be in this spot against the hapless Chiefs.
This game will be the Broncos third road game in four weeks and fatigue could be a bit of a factor. They’ve flown from Cincinnati, to Carolina, to Denver and now to Kansas City, so if you’re betting the letdown angle, travel could contribute.
Lastly, the Broncos will be without running back Willis McGahee for this contest. They can surely survive without him but he provides the much-needed balance. The Broncos could find it a little tougher than they expect if they can’t run the ball on the road.
Outlook & NFL Football Betting Prediction:
Anything can happen. See the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns from last week. Even as huge dogs, they all fought to the death and they were all on the road. The Chiefs are at home.
The Broncos will win this game but don’t be surprised if the Chiefs cover a huge number. The best play appears to be a Broncos teaser to knock it down to the field goal range.
