MLB bettors who had the OVER on Friday enjoyed a fairly relaxing evening. The number closed at 7.5 and the high side was a winner by the end of the fourth inning of Philly's 12-6 victory, the second straight OVER in this series.
The OVER has also been a winner in five of Keuchel's last seven starts, but fading the southpaw has been even more profitable with the Astros dropping 10 of his last 11 trips to the hill. He has failed to get past the fourth inning in four of those outings; Saturday night will be the first time Keuchel has faced the Phils in his young career, and Philadelphia has struggled a bit against left-handed starters this season at 21-24.
Kendrick has been going the opposite direction of Keuchel in every sense of the word as far as bettors are concerned. His 5-1 record since the middle of August also includes six consecutive UNDER winners, and Kendrick's last five road assignments have failed to reach the total. The one caveat to that is his lone career outing in Houston back in 2008 was a rather forgettable experience (5 IP, 5 ER).
My initial notion about this series was Houston 's best shot to win a game was Thursday's series opener, which they did. Even though the Phils have not been at their best against southpaws, Keuchel isn't an elite lefty by any stretch of the imagination. Kendrick and the Phils on the run line will be my play on Saturday.
