It's true. Friday's series opener in Oakland found the Athletics registering a 3-2 victory over the O's who had no magic in their rally caps this time. The two clubs will go at it again Saturday night at The Coliseum, where the A's are once again moderate favorites in the low -130s according to the MLB odds, while a 7.5 run total will cost an extra 10-20 cents for those baseball bettors who have their eyes on the UNDER.
Oakland 's win did little to the overall American League standings other than give the Athletics a 2-game cushion over the O's (and/or New York Yankees) in the wild card race. The bunch behind Baltimore and New York did manage to inch up a bit, however.

It's true. Friday's series opener in
Game 2 of the weekend set finds a couple of youngsters on the bump with Zach Britton up for Buck Showalter and the Orioles while Jarrod Parker takes the ball from Bob Melvin for the A's. Combined, they're 10 years younger than me, and I'm really not that old - compared to the big, old oak tree outside my window, that is.
We saw Britton last weekend against the Yanks, and the southpaw really stunk things up at Camden Yards to emerge on the losing end of a 13-3 New York laugher. The performance snapped a string of four good outings by Britton, and five consecutive Baltimore wins in his starts. He'll look to turn that back around now against an Athletics lineup that also touched him up in Baltimore in late-July, plating six in Britton's 5.2 innings.
Parker is coming off back-to-back strong efforts against a stacked Angels batting order, combining for 14 frames while allowing just three runs while Oakland split the two decisions. He opposed Britton in Charm City on July 27 and had about the same linescore with the O's scoring six times in five innings, Parker's only career appearance vs. Baltimore .
I simply do not trust Britton in this game and will make my play on the A's to expand their lead at the top of the AL wild card ranks.
