New Jersey Devils at New York Islanders (120, 5)
Not only did first-year Devils captain Zach Parise get a hat trick in New Jersey’s 5-0 win over Washington on Friday, he shook off a crosscheck to his jaw and returned to action.
“He’s the heartbeat of our team,” Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. “He’s a tough kid. He doesn’t go down very often. When he does stay down, even a short period, you’re worried.”
The other good news for the Devils is that winger Alexei Ponikarovsky hopes to return to the lineup at Nassau Coliseum. He hurt his right knee while hitting Andrew Ference in the Devils’ OT loss in Boston on Thursday.
The Islanders have the fourth-lowest point total in the NHL after Thursday’s 6-3 loss to Philly.
The Devils have won five of the past six meetings with the Isles.
Pick: Devils ---
Dallas Stars at Calgary Flames (-120, 5)
Miikka Kiprusoff should be back in goal for the Flames when they entertain the Stars, but he hasn’t been sharp lately. He’s allowed 17 goals in his last five games.
The Flames are getting desperate. They’re on the outside of the playoffs looking in. Calgary is coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in Anaheim in which Ryan Getzlaf scored in the final minute.
Most disappointing, the Flames have dropped their last four home games.
The Stars won 3-1 in Edmonton on Friday, extending their points streak to six games (5-0-1). Dallas can taste its first playoff appearance in four years.
