The NLCS will go the limit when the Cardinals and Giants collide Monday night for Game 7 in San Francisco , aka The City. Read what one capper thinks about the matchup between Kyle Lohse and Matt Cain, and where bettors should consider making their play.
Can two of the Golden Gate City 's finest, Lieutenant Mike Stone and Inspector Steve Keller, solve the case of the missing St. Louis Cardinals offense? Tune in tonight to see the exciting conclusion of the 2012 NLCS and find out on the next episode of The Streets of San Francisco .
If the MLB odds mean anything, the Cardinals will begin their winter vacation tomorrow. The Giants are consensus -140 favorites for the first pitch a little past five o'clock local time atAT&T Park where we have a rematch of Game 3 mound combatants, Kyle Lohse and Matt Cain. Scoreboard bettors are looking at a 7 run total with the UNDER priced at a hefty -130.
Sunday's triumph was the Giants' fifth in as many elimination games this October, a string that began by taking three straight from the Reds in Cincinnati to capture the NLDS. The Cardinals are no stranger to elimination games themselves the past two postseasons with a 6-0 mark in those circumstances, 2-0 this year with wins in the NL Wild Card Playoff and Game 5 of their NLDS vs. Washington.
Will The St. Louis Lineup Take Another Holliday?
After scoring 18 runs in the first 35 innings of this year's NLCS, St. Louis has plated just one in the last 19 frames. Some of that credit obviously goes to Vogelsong and Barry Zito, San Fran's Game 5 starter. There's plenty of blame to spread among the Redbirds, including Matt Holliday who was scratched from the Game 6 lineup due to lower back pain.
Holliday (4-for-21 in series) will be a game-time decision tonight, and Cain has had decent success against the slugger dating back to his days in Oakland , holding Holliday to a .200 average (8-for-40) though he has hit three homers. Cain faced Holliday three times in Game 3, and won all three confrontations.
Scutaro, meanwhile, went 2-for-3 in his battles with Lohse in that contest, one of five multi-hit games he's enjoyed this series. Since beginning the postseason 0-for-8, the Giants second sacker is batting .388 to play a huge role in San Francisco winning six of nine.
Rainy Day In Bay Area Forecast
Mother Nature could once again interrupt this series just as she did last Wednesday when Cain and Lohse squared off at Busch Stadium. Rain is expected to fall most of the day and only tapers off to a 30%-40% likelihood at game time. The umpires waited for more than three hours to get Game 3 in, and they'll wait even longer if they have to in order to get matters decided Monday.
Crew Chief Gary Darling will assume the position behind the plate to call the balls and strikes. He also worked Game 1 (a 6-4 Cardinals win and OVER), and was 20-17 O/U in the regular season.
Momentum is on San Francisco 's side, but that will only carry the Giants into the first inning of tonight's game. Bruce Bochy's ballclub is clearly the better team at this juncture, and it's easy to think of a 3-2, 4-1 outcome tonight. But I can't help myself and will make a play on the Cardinals and the OVER for my MLB Picks.
My pick: Cardinals +130---, Over 7 (+110) +++
