03.11.2012 NBA Picks: Odds & Predictions For Saturday

By:

The Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers face off this Saturday night at the Staples Center in an early-season Pacific Division clash.

Warriors Game Preview
David LeeGolden State followed up an 87-85 opening-day victory over Phoenix as a two-point underdog on the road with a 104-94 loss to Memphis on Friday night as a 1.5-point underdog in its home opener. The total stayed UNDER against the Suns but went OVER the 191.5-point line against the Grizzlies.
The Warriors will now try and knock off L.A. behind Stephen Curry, David Lee and rookie Harrison Barnes. Curry tossed in a game-high 26 points on Friday night while adding seven assists. Lee tallied 16 points and seven rebounds while Barnes scored eight points in his second career NBA game. Another player to watch on Saturday night is Carl Landry off the bench. He has averaged 18.5 points and six rebounds in the first two games. Golden State’s youth will prove to be a major asset as the season progresses, but it may be somewhat over-matched in this contest.
Clippers Game Preview
You have to be impressed with the Clippers’ start, especially Friday night’s 105-95 victory over the Lakers as 1.5-point road favorites at the Staples Center. They caught a break with Steve Nash out of the lineup, but still outplayed their city rivals the entire night. Los Angeles is now 2-0 both straight-up and against the spread with the total going OVER in both games.
While everyone knows just how good Chris Paul and Blake Griffin work together, the addition of Jamal Crawford coming off the bench could be just what this team needed to legitimately contend for a Western Conference title. He scored a game-high 29 points in the Clippers opening-day win over Memphis and led the team again in scoring with 21 points against the Lakers. The most impressive thing about L.A. in the early going has been the overall depth of its lineup. This could be key in tonight’s matchup as it tries to wear down Golden State over the course of the game.
Betting Lines and Trends
The Warriors are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games against the Pacific Division and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games on no day’s rest. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight games.
The Clippers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five home games but just 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The total has gone OVER in six of their last seven games following a SU win.
Head-to-head, the road team in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in five of the last seven games played in Los Angeles. Golden State is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
Pick
Past trends in this matchup definitely favor the Warriors, but you can throw them out the door when it comes to handicapping this game. The Clippers are playing at a high level right out of the gate while it is still a bit of hit or miss with Golden State. The overall difference in talent will prove to be too much for the Warriors keep this game closer than the 8.5-point spread on the road.
Los Angeles 104  Golden State 94
