The Giants moved to a 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games with last week’s win over the 49ers. Sunday’s NFL picks betting card has Tom Coughlin’s club returning home to meet the Redskins, who have seen the OVER get the money at a 5-1 clip in their first six contests.
Joe Freda’s 2012 NFL Record: 3-3 (-0.30)
Giants smother Smith, 49ers
New York’s defense recorded six sacks in last Sunday’s victory, holding 49ers quarterback Alex Smith to 200 passing yards. Giants safety Antrel Rolle grabbed two of his squad’s three interceptions, while he and his mates kept Smith and Co. out of the red zone all afternoon.
Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw dashed for 116 yards on 27 carries, topping the century mark for a second straight week. New York’s Lawrence Tynes connected on 4-of-5 field goals, capping off his team’s 16 unanswered points in the second half.
The lopsided affair’s combined 29 points plunged below the ‘total’ of 46, bringing the UNDER to 3-1 in New York’s last four games. Giants quarterback Eli Manning finished with 193 yards through the air, finding wide out Victor Cruz for a team-high six catches.
Redskins, Griffin edge out Vikings
Washington erased an early 9-0 deficit in last week’s 38-26 win as a one-point home dog against the Minnesota Vikings. Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III notched a pair of rushing touchdowns, while finishing with a combined 320 yards through the ground and air.
Washington’s DeAngelo Hall and Madieu Williams logged one interception each, while mate Lorenzo Alexander registered 1 ½ of his side’s four sacks. Williams returned his ‘pick’ 24 yards for a touchdown en route to recording a team-high eight tackles.
The high-octane battle’s 64 points soared OVER the ‘total’ of 43 ½. Redskins wide out Santana Moss finished with four catches for 46 yards, while running back Alfred Morris was held to 47 yards on 16 carries.
Back the Redskins as road dogs
Sports books opened New York as a 6 ½-point home favorite, with early wagers on Washington dropping the number to 5 ½. Sunday’s kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET), with clear 65 degrees expected at MetLife Stadium.
I am agreeing with the early "steam" here, taking the points with the Redskins as part of my NFL picks for the day’s action. Washington has put up 30.7 PPG in its three road spots, while going 6-2 ATS in its last eight contests against NFC East Division foes.
Griffin will have his challenges against the Giants, but Manning also faces an improved Redskins’ defense here. Washington went from allowing 33.7 PPG in its first three weeks of action to 24 PPG in its most recent trio of contests.
New York comes off an impressive victory, but has been an overvalued 1-2 ATS in its three home dates. Washington has a 3-0 spread record in its last three meetings with the Giants, including this past December’s 23-10 triumph for the Redskins as 5 ½-point road dogs.
Look for this duel to stay close down the stretch, adding another cashed ticket to Washington’s 5-2-1 ATS clip in its last eight road games against clubs with winning home records.
