This is the early Thursday game, so both of these teams will be coming off short rest to face one another. The Backers and the Bears share one of the best rivalries in football, and it should be one hell of a game. Both of these teams have retooled their rosters, and it should be full of big plays and big hits. The Bears are coming in as +7 underdogs as they go into Lambeau Field, and the Packers should be fired up to face their divisional rivals.
NFL odds have already been released for some of Week 2's biggest matchups, and we are already all over these lines. Where do we think that the early betting value lies in Week 2, and who are we adding to our NFL picks?
So what do you do if your early NFL Week 1 betting picks are locked in already? You double down on some of the early Week 2 lines of course!
Sure it might seem a bit premature, but some NFL odds makers have already released certain Week 2 lines, and I’m here to give you some of my very early picks. Just as a disclaimer, these can and will probably change by the time September rolls around, but these are my official NFL picks for the summer lines.
Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers
This is the early Thursday game, so both of these teams will be coming off short rest to face one another. The Backers and the Bears share one of the best rivalries in football, and it should be one hell of a game. Both of these teams have retooled their rosters, and it should be full of big plays and big hits. The Bears are coming in as +7 underdogs as they go into Lambeau Field, and the Packers should be fired up to face their divisional rivals.
However, Week 1 should work in the Bear’s favor, as they only have to face the Colts at home, while the Packers have a big opening day test, as they host the 49ers in Week 1.
This pick comes from the heart, and I feel like the Bears have become a much better team from last season, and the Packers haven’t done much. I’ll take the Bears’ defense in this one, and take the points as well. I smell a big road win for the Bears.
My Pick: Bears +7
Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers
Much like the Thursday game, the road team in this contest will have had a much easier warm up game in Week 1, as the Lions will have just won in Week 1 against the Rams, and the 49ers will have just played the Packers. Either way, this one should be a brawl, as both of these teams are young, mean and probably don’t show much restraint.
The 49ers are only favored by -3 points, and I think that is solid betting value in these early football betting lines. I think they will play well in their Week 1 game against the Packers, even though I don’t expect them to win. The Lions are still going to give up points, and if the 49ers offense can get going under Alex Smith, I think they win this game by a touchdown.
My Pick: 49ers -3
New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Another Sunday fist fight will feature the Jets going into the Steel City to face the Steelers. TheSteelers are favored by -4 in the early NFL odds boards, and I can see some value in the home team once again. Even though Pittsburgh is getting older on defense, their offense is young and very good, and I see the Jets’ offense struggling a lot this season.
I have zero faith in Mark Sanchez, because he is just an average quarterback. An average quarterback versus an older but good defense; I’ll take the defense and the home team every time.
My Pick: Steelers -4
Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night Football features Peyton Manning’s Broncos against the Falcons. Although the total hasn’t been released just yet, I’m feeling the over in this one. The spread favors the Falcons by -2 at this point of the summer, and I think I am going to have to lay off the spread.
The total will most likely be close to 50 points, likely somewhere around the high forties. If it is, I like the over. Both of these teams will air it out. Both secondaries are good, but not great, and I see a shoot out Monday night.
