NFL Betting: AFC South Futures Odds

As we continue on the road to the NFL season, we are continuing to break down division odds for each team. Today we will focus on the AFC South, a division that wasn’t really a contest last season. Find out who we are backing this year.

The Houston Texans were running away with the division before all their injuries, and even though the final standings were close, it was all Houston. Will it be that way again? The sportsbooks sure think so.
Houston Texans -500 AFC South, +400 AFC, +1000 Super Bowl
Houston TexansOne of the premier betting favorites for the 2012 NFL season is the Houston Texans. They are almost a lock to make the playoffs, barring some more freak injuries to their key players. As you can see from the odds to win their division, no one is giving anyone else in the AFC South much of a chance.
The AFC South is probably the weakest division in football, because after the Texans, everyone else is almost surely not a playoff team. The Texans on the other hand are kind of a nice value pick to win the AFC. Of course they’ll probably run up against the Patriots at some point, and the Ravens will surely have something to say about it, but the Texans’ defense is stacked, and they have a better offense than the Ravens. +400 could be nice value, but health remains the only reason why I can’t endorse taking it at this time.
Tennessee Titans +350 AFC South, +2500 AFC, +6000 Super Bowl
The Titans come in second according to NFL odds makers within the AFC South, and even though they have one of the best running backs in the league, they struggled to run the ball last season. The Titans did go 9-7, but a bad 2-4 run in the middle of the season found them on the outside looking in.
There are a few questions surrounding this team, including the quarterback position. However, they do have some nice pieces in pace. Chris Johnson should start strong this season, and if Kenny Britt can come back from his injury and play well, they have a chance at a wildcard slot. However, I’m not giving them much of a chance to beat out the Texans for the division.
Indianapolis Colts +1000 AFC South, +4500 AFC, +10,000 Super Bowl
After a 2-14 season in 2011, and a closed chapter in franchise history, the Colts will be trying to move on, and improve upon their two win season. The Colts are somewhat surprisingly not in the bottom of the AFC South odds, but they are close. The addition of Andrew Luck should add at least 2 wins to their total from last season, but I don’t have that high of expectations for the rookie and the Colts. Obviously Cam Newton had a great rookie season, and I don’t put it past Luck, but I think he might struggle a bit.
Jacksonville Jaguars +1000 AFC South, +7500 AFC, +20,000 Super Bowl
What can be said about this team? They are flat out terrible. No team has worse odds to win the Super Bowl in 2012, and they are going nowhere. They swung and missed on Blaine Gabbert apparently, and besides Maurice Jones-Drew, they have zero offense. They were dead last in the league last season in passing yards, and MJD looks like he is holding out. If I were him, I would do just that. Don’t risk injury on a team that will probably be the Colts of last season. Make them pay you the big dollars if they want to risk your career for a 2-win season.
