Phoenix Coyotes at Dallas Stars (-130, 5)
Tuesday will be a huge day in the Western Conference.
Phoenix and Dallas square off tied with 83 points apiece, though Dallas currently occupies top spot in the Pacific division thanks to the club’s 39 wins. With as many as five teams battling for the final two playoff spots in the West, this might as well be a playoff game for both teams.
Phoenix got late goals from Ray Whitney and Raffi Torres to crawl back from a 2-0 deficit with 12 minutes remaining in regulation on Sunday to down Edmonton 3-2 in a shootout.
"Every game matters so much for us right now," Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle told reporters. "We fumbled it around a bit in the first period, but I think we played our game more as the game wore on. We were able to work them down low and find a way to win."
The Coyotes have won three straight meetings with Dallas and the Stars are struggling in their own end right now, having allowed nine goals in the last two games.
Pick: Coyotes ---
Calgary Flames at Colorado Avalanche (-135, 5)
The Calgary Flames’ playoff hopes are still flickering, but they have to stop giving away points in winnable games.
Calgary lost its second straight contest Sunday, falling 2-1 in a shootout to Columbus after losing 3-1 at Edmonton on Friday.
“We all know in this locker room that it’s unacceptable, especially at this time of the year, but the last thing you want to do right now is sit and dwell on it. We have to learn from what we did,” Flames winger Blake Comeau told reporters.
Offense has been a problem for the Flames all season and even though they outshot Columbus 31-18, they couldn’t take advantage of their chances. Calgary also hasn’t scored a power play goal in five games.
Meanwhile, Colorado has picked up nine points over the last five games and is coming off an impressive 3-1 win over the Rangers.
